Patchwork Jeans
Original jeans were oversized Levi’s 550s. They were taken apart along the original stitching and laid flat, then joined with another panel from a lighter pair of Levi's to create a piece of denim large enough to cut my pattern from. The panels were joined with triple zigzag stitching following the original seam lines, then the excess was trimmed away, leaving subtle distressing.

VINTAGE LEVI’S® REPURPOSED ARTWORK DISCLAIMER
This piece is a one-of-one textile artwork created using a genuine, pre-owned vintage Levi’s® garment as source material. The original garment has been deconstructed, altered, reconstructed, and transformed into a new artistic work.
Any Levi’s® labels, tabs, patches, stitching, hardware, or other original elements visible on the finished piece are retained solely as components of the original vintage material and are not intended to indicate that this artwork was manufactured, sponsored, endorsed, or authorized by Levi Strauss & Co.
TRANSFORMATIVE ARTWORK & TRADEMARK NOTICE
The finished piece is an independently created work of art. The original Levi’s® garment has been materially altered and incorporated into a new composition rather than being represented as an unaltered Levi’s® product.
This use is intended to be transformative and artistic. U.S. trademark law, including the Lanham Act, generally focuses on whether use of a trademark creates a likelihood of confusion regarding the source, sponsorship, or affiliation of goods. The Supreme Court has also recognized that trademark law treats artistic or expressive uses differently depending on whether the mark is being used to identify the source of the new product. Jack Daniel’s Properties, Inc. v. VIP Products LLC, 599 U.S. ___ (2023).
Nothing in this disclaimer is intended to represent that the use of Levi’s® trademarks is automatically protected in every circumstance. The legality of any particular use depends on the specific facts, presentation, labeling, and manner in which the artwork is marketed.
NO AFFILIATION
This artwork is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, licensed by, or produced in collaboration with Levi Strauss & Co.
Levi’s® and related trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.
ARTWORK CONDITION
Because each piece is handmade from vintage garments, natural variations, fading, distressing, repairs, visible seam lines, reconstructed panels, fraying, and other imperfections may be present. These characteristics are intentional elements of the artwork and reflect the history and original character of the source garment.
Each piece is individually constructed and is intended to be understood and purchased as a one-of-one textile artwork, not as an original or unmodified Levi’s® garment.
